The Great 2024 Summer Road Trip Begins

I occasionally get asked why I don’t write the Blog anymore. Well, I’ve never stopped, I just haven’t sent out notices. I guess my thinking has been, nobody, or very few people read it anyhow.

This road trip will be about two months in length and visit some of the National Parks out west so it may have some interesting content. I will get a notice out as each post is put online, I haven’t decided how yet, it has to be FB or email I guess.

It has been a bee hive of activity around our house in preparation for this trip. The truck needed some repair and maintenance and we tried to catch up on some house projects before leaving. Surprisingly, the RV didn’t need much attention at all. Well, I did rebuild the suspension, install new flooring, reseal the roof, and probably a few other odds and ends.

Departure day

May 8 2024 (Today as I write this} was our departure day and it went smoothly. We had brought the RV to the house from the storage lot two days ago so it was now packed and ready to roll. We hitched it up and pulled away from the house at 8:30am. It’s now 3:30pm and so far we haven’t noticed anything we might have forgotten.

We are currently parked on an RV site in the Denton (North Carolina) Farm Park. We will be here until Saturday for the Malpass Brothers Bluegrass Festival. There is a large lineup of performers, some we’ve seen before and we know they are very good, plus a few groups that are new to us.

The three days of non stop music starts tomorrow, plus it appears we will have jammer sessions at the RV site right next to us. They have definitely set up for music right outside our door. Note: Jammers is the name given to impromptu get togethers of musicians.

We got an unexpected treat this afternoon, we found out they have an open mike night at the pavilion. A continuous succession of local bands performed until well into the night. It was a great start to the festival.

Just the facts:

The campground at the Farm Park has a haphazard layout that meanders in and around a wooded area. Parking is on grass and the roads are gravel. It gives me the impression it could quickly become a quagmire if it rains heavily on departure day. It is clearly here as a convenience for venue attendees and is in no way a rated campground. I’m sure it is only open during events.

Our site is poor, 4 inches off  level side to side and running strongly downhill front to back. The sewer connection is beyond the reach of my 25 feet of hose. Water and electric are fine, so far! The is a large tree smack dab in the center of our side, forcing me to park the RV off to one side, which crowds my neighbor, he seems ok with it.

Departure Mileage was 117444 and arrival was 118942. We refueled when we got to Denton, 22.3 gallons, $319.9 per gallon $70.49 total.

Denton appears to be a pretty dead little town, not much business to speak of, dollar stores, a couple shabby gas/convenience stores and a Bojangles.
