The Great Summer Roadtrip of 2024

Sunday July 21, 2024

We’ve been home exactly a week today and it’s been a busy one. Between decommissioning the RV, getting the lawn maintenance done and of course the reason we rushed home, my eye injection. The time has been flying by.

BTW, thanks for asking, the new meds my eye doc uses lasted for the entire trip without any negative vision problems. The reaction to the meds immediately after the shot is not fun, but I can deal with it.

Looking back on the trip, it all went pretty much as planned, We started the trip with a four days camping at the Malpass Brothers Bluegrass Festival at Denton Farm Park in North Carolina, what fun that was! On our way west we visited both of Millie’s sisters, stopped in Pigeon Forge and Nashville Tennessee before dropping down to Hot Springs Arkansas.

Mesa Verde

Out west we toured I think seven geologic wonders, most of them National Parks in Utah, along with a couple National Monument sites and our 17-mile journey across the desert on BLM land known as the Valley of the Gods.

We were gone from home from May 8th to July 14th. In addition to our tourist travel, we got to spend time with the Kolman family in Los alamos New Mexico. Twice actually, 12 days on the way west and 22 days on the way back.

In retrospect we’re calling the trip a success, but it was not without its problems. We seemed to have more issues than normal with the RV, all of them I was able to repair, as well as the two major repairs that had to be fixed on the truck.

Are done traveling for a while? Nope, we leave in three weeks for a two-week trip. It will be centered on the North Carolina Bluegrass Festival in Marion North Carolina and have a couple side trips along the way!
