Lucille Self death August 30 2024

 Sept 3 2024

Millie’s sister Lucille Self passed away last Friday August 30th  We had visited her a few weeks ago and planned to return last week, but were told not to come because of a Covid outbreak at the nursing home. At least Millie got to spend some time with her near end of her life. She was pretty much tired of being ill and expressed her desire to reunite with her late husband Eddie Self.

The funeral service is today September 3rd in Martinsville Virginia with internment at the Bray family cemetery in nearby Axton Virginia.

RaeAnne was here visiting so we rented a big Land Rover for the journey. With the three of us going to the funeral and returning the same day we thought we might as well ride in style. I drove to our first fuel stop just a ways above Darlington North Carolina. I turned the wheel over to RaeAnne and she drove the rest of the way.

The viewing and funeral service were held at the Norris funeral home and interment was at the family cemetery in Axton.  Not much more to say about that, sad.

After the internment we toured nearby Danville Virginia. It is the childhood home of RayAnne and she hadn’t been back there in many years. I think she enjoyed the visit, she and Millie reminisced about all the places that were the same and pointed out all the things that have changed.

We drove home straight home from Danville, still enjoying the luxury of our big black funeral car!

RIP Lucille
